2022 European Championships in Munich
An unforgettable summer fairy tale filled with emotion, sportsmanship, and team spirit.
#Munich2022 We were there from start to finish—right in the thick of it and up close as the official “Recovery Supplier”! And we have to say: Our expectations were exceeded. The 4,700 athletes, the 8,000 volunteers, the 1.2 million spectators, and the city of Munich gave Germany a second—but entirely unique—summer sports fairy tale.
The 50th anniversary celebration at Munich’s Olympic Park—marking the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Olympic Games—could hardly have been better, more beautiful, more exciting, more varied, or more emotional. Throughout all 11 days of competition at the 2022 European Championships #BackToTheRoofs, a magical mix of passion and boundless sporting spirit filled the air, palpable from the Olympic Stadium all the way to the many venues in and around Munich.
Right from the opening ceremony on August 10—with its musical lineup, the atmosphere, and the incredible number of people in attendance—it quickly became clear that something big and unforgettable was about to begin.

Incredible Sporting Spirit—Even from the Fans
It wasn’t just the athletes who thrilled the fans—the fans also inspired the athletes from all over Europe. In many interviews, participants spoke of a “one-of-a-kind atmosphere” and said they felt “carried by the spectators,” especially during tough competitions. Goosebumps were the order of the day for everyone.

During spectacular victory runs, such as Gina Lückenkemper’s 100-meter dash at the Olympic Stadium, the euphoria in the stands could be clearly heard, seen, and felt. But it wasn’t just at the Olympic Stadium—countless people also helped turn this sporting event into a true summer fairy tale during the marathon through the city, in the exhibition halls, and along the Olympic rowing course.
Recover like a champion.
BLACKROLL® Workshops & Recovery Areas for Pros and Fans
Through our exclusive BLACKROLL® Recovery Areas for each of the 9 competition disciplines—plus an additional one by Red Bull—we offered athletes “backstage” the opportunity to prepare before their competitions and, after delivering peak performances, to take ample time for active recovery using our tools. For us as a brand, it was incredibly exciting to see our products being used so extensively by the pros and to make a small contribution to their performance. It was a great pleasure to be right in the thick of the action!
But we’re not just celebrating the athletes as champions—we’re also celebrating the 8,000 volunteers who provided active support on-site in all areas. We set up a dedicated recovery area for them as well, to ensure they had moments to relax.
Our main booth for all event visitors at Hans-Jochen-Vogelplatz, across from the Central Stage, and our BLACKROLL® booth at Königsplatz—near the beach volleyball and climbing areas—were always packed—and we were hard at work. The massages with our FASCIA GUN in the Sparkassen Recovery Area by BLACKROLL® and the chance to try out our RECOVERY PILLOW were especially popular. In this summer heat, short breaks for relaxation felt twice as good.
Plus, all sports fans had the chance to try out the perfect training and recovery routine right there on site—without having to be a top European athlete ;-) Participants in our workshops on the rooftop terrace of BMW Welt and at Creative Roof enjoyed top-notch recovery sessions with trainers Stefan and Kathrin. And for everyone who couldn’t make it to Munich, we streamed a live workout from the Olympic Park via Instagram:
In the Thick of the Competition
Of course, we were personally delighted by all the athletic achievements, but we were especially rooting for—and celebrating with—the three athletes whose faces not only graced our recovery areas and booths on site, but who were also seen on the podiums: Jacob Schopf won gold in the single kayak, Pauline Schäfer secured a historic bronze medal as part of the German women’s gymnastics team and also won gold on the balance beam. The German women’s gymnastics team ( Pauline Schäfer, Emma Malewski, Kim Bui, Sarah Vossi, Elisabeth Seitz) won the first-ever team medal at a European Championship.

In addition to Nele Schenker and Hannes Ocik, fitness influencer Jasmin Lehmann also spent a day with us to thoroughly test our fitness program and tools—including a live workout on Instagram and a “Hollow-hold Challenge” with visitors to our booth. In the end, she was so enthusiastic that she now plans to offer BLACKROLL® classes at her own gym and has posted her favorite exercises on Instagram:
Our Greatest Victory: The BLACKROLL® Team Spirit
Finally, we’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our team—our little BLACKROLL® family! As a small team, we’ve achieved great things and had the privilege of experiencing so much. The wonderful days we spent together on-site have shown that we share the same vision, both professionally and personally.
A special thank you also goes to our “Campus Rollers” (sports students who accompany us at events and offer BLACKROLL® courses as part of their university sports programs). They provided us with active on-site support in Munich and impressed visitors with their expertise in sports, health, and recovery.
As a team, we were able to seamlessly blend into the unique spirit of the 2022 European Championships in Munich—and we’re already looking forward to more events like this!
