Our BLACKROLL® Mangrove Project

This year, for the first time, we retroactively offset our corporate emissions (Swiss HQ & Australian location) for 2022 through our own Blue Carbon project via the non-profit organization for climate and environmental protection, blue life. Through this project, we are funding the restoration of mangrove forests in Myanmar.

You can find all the details about this special project here.

Our BLACKROLL® Mangrove Project

Marine Conservation.

To offset the emissions generated by our fascia rollers and balls, we invest in global marine conservation .

Over 8 million metric tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean every year. Developing countries, in particular, often lack the infrastructure for proper disposal. Stopping the flood of plastic while simultaneously improving the lives of waste-collecting communities—this climate protection project is based on that approach. Some of our products are also made of plastic.

That’s precisely why we chose this project. We’re aware of the plastic problem—especially when there’s no circular economy model in place and waste ends up in the environment. You can read here about what we’re doing ourselves to further optimize our products made from EPP plastic.

Back to the marine conservation project—how does it actually work? Local residents in Indonesia, Brazil, and the Philippines, among other places, collect plastic waste before it enters the ocean.

At collection points, they can exchange it for money, food, drinking water, or school fees. The collected plastic is recycled and processed into what’s known as “Social Plastic,” which serves as a raw material for new products. Plastic Bank is a offset project: So far, there have been two different offset projects for CO₂ offsetting.

For every metric ton of CO₂ offset, 10 kg of plastic waste is collected.

Renewable Energy.

For emissions from the fitness bands product group, we are investing in a climate protection project to expand renewable energy in Asia.

We chose this project because this portfolio supports multiple projects in Asian countries that are driving the expansion of sustainable technologies. This development is important to us.

This is especially true given that some of our products are still petroleum-based and that one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil. Promoting renewable energy is therefore essential today to mitigate the effects of climate change and meet growing energy demand.

The best-known renewable energy sources are wind, solar, and hydroelectric power. This project also supports biogas and biomass projects. Here, energy is generated from renewable biomass, such as waste materials like coconut shells, wood, or sawdust.
