Spring Awakening
Seasonal health and lifestyle tips for spring.
Nature is finally coming back to life—and hopefully you’re emerging from hibernation too? Birds are chirping, sunbeams are tickling your face, and the scent of spring is in the air. It’s time to get outside, try new things, and leave the dark season—and the seclusion within your own four walls—behind. Especially with the arrival of spring, our energy flares up again, and we’re bursting with a zest for adventure, creative ideas, and socializing—and we want to clear out the old. Yes, we’re ready for spring cleaning! Yet we often feel sluggish and not quite ready for the new season. Spring fatigue despite the invigorating sunshine? It happens—and quite often, at that!
Take advantage of the energy the changing seasons bring! When you’re in sync with the season, it can have numerous positive effects on your health. With our health and lifestyle tips, you’re guaranteed to start spring feeling fit and healthy. Give it a try!

“Honey, you need to drink more water!”
We’ve all heard this phrase, which often makes us roll our eyes. We roll our eyes because we frequently neglect to stay properly hydrated amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And this is despite the fact that we’re all actually aware of how important water is for vital detoxification processes in the body. When you consider that the human body is 60 to 70 percent H₂O and that water acts as a heat regulator, solvent, and transport medium, it becomes clear that thirst is a warning signal and that our cells urgently need fluids to maintain their processes. However, instead of hastily quenching your thirst, you should switch to drinking water in small sips throughout the day—this not only benefits your cells but, above all, your stomach. Especially in the spring, a sluggish metabolism can be revitalized through mindful hydration. If plain water is too boring for you, spice it up with a slice of lemon and a spoonful of honey. This not only boosts your metabolism but also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. How convenient!
Spring cleaning without a mop and bucket…
Especially at the start of a new season, our bodies need a detoxifying cleanse so that our souls feel right at home within our bodies. Whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, fresh fruit, and green vegetables like broccoli, cucumbers, cabbage, or spinach, as well as mushrooms, fish, and meat, not only provide fiber, minerals, healthy fats, and many valuable vitamins, but also naturally cleanse the body from the inside out. Seasonal foods aren’t just the best sources of energy to combat spring fatigue—they also play a key role in maintaining a balanced diet that aligns with the rhythm of the seasons. The key to an energetic day! Also great for spring cleaning: body scrubs!
Inhale serotonin, exhale melatonin!
As the seasons change, our neurobiological balance is thrown off, and it takes quite some time for the equilibrium between serotonin and melatonin to be restored. We may experience temporary spring fatigue, but this can be counteracted with adequate hydration, a healthy diet, and plenty of exercise in the fresh air. To reset your internal clock, taking a walk or exercising outdoors and consciously breathing in fresh air are particularly beneficial. Once you’re out in the fresh air, don’t forget to kill two birds with one stone! Figuratively speaking, of course! Roll up your sleeves a bit and tilt the tip of your nose toward the sun! That way, after the long winter, you’ll not only soak up the sun’s warming rays but, more importantly, get some vital vitamin D. And that not only strengthens your immune system but also boosts the production of the “happiness hormone.”
Open Yourself Up to the New Season
If you want to take a deep breath, you can support this with heart-opening exercises. They expand the entire heart and lung area. This improves the quality of your breathing and deepens it with regular practice. The increased oxygen intake has an energizing effect, your metabolism increases, and your concentration improves. Your digestive system is also stretched and gets back into gear. It’s no coincidence that people talk about “spring fever” in the spring. Heart-opening exercises promote “openness” both physically and emotionally and help you let go. Twisting poses also invigorate your body and stimulate your metabolism and detoxification by massaging the digestive organs (liver, kidneys) as you gently twist your upper body.
Good morning, sunshine!
As spring begins, the days grow longer and the nights shorter, which further throws the two neurobiological substances—serotonin and melatonin—out of balance. The goal with the spring awakening is to gently outsmart melatonin, the sleep hormone responsible for regulating the sleep-wake cycle. Here, it seems best to draw strength from nature and learn from it. By this, we mean simply adapting your daily routine to natural conditions: getting up at sunrise and going to bed as darkness falls. Such a routine allows our bodies to adjust to the new season, in harmony with the planet’s cycle.

Grab your water bottle and add a splash of lemon juice, munch on some crisp vegetables, get some exercise in the fresh air while listening to birdsong, soak up the sun, laugh until your belly aches, and roll out your mat for a few heart-opening and twisting poses. With these few, simple health-style tips, you’ll kick off an exciting, energetic, and fit spring season. And we’re not just saying that—we really mean it!
Spring is here—make the most of this blossoming season for yourself!
