Rad am Ring 2023: BLACKROLL® got off to a flying start with two teams—both on and off the track.
From July 21 to 23, 2023, the 20th “Rad am Ring” took place at the Nürburgring—including the legendary 24-hour bike race. BLACKROLL® not only took care of all the riders’ muscles and had a booth at the expo, but also sent a dedicated team of eight, wearing black BLACKROLL® jerseys, onto the historic asphalt of the “Green Hell,” as the Nürburgring is often called.
Spoiler: In just 24 hours, a “just-for-fun” team turned into a serious cycling race team that, despite a surprisingly good finish, still prioritized fun over ambition.
Collaboration for a good cause: For the 24-hour bike race, BLACKROLL® and the cycling heroes from the Ledschends shared a “pit” in the riders’ camp and worked together as a team.

The infamous 24-hour bike race in the “Green Hell”
The 24-hour bike race at the Nürburgring has held a unique fascination since 2003: The atmosphere of the Formula 1 arena and the challenges of the legendary Nordschleife make this day-and-night race one of a kind worldwide. This special racing experience challenges not only the athletes themselves but the entire team—from support staff to volunteers to friends. And the BLACKROCK® Campus Roller team had plenty to do as well and, of course, were on hand for the full 24 hours.
The race features various disciplines, including solo riders and teams of 2, 4, and 8, ensuring that both extreme athletes and amateur racers get their money’s worth. The 24-hour version of the course measures about 26 kilometers and consists of 92 turns and approximately 560 meters of elevation gain. The track surface is perfect and offers good grip, but there are also challenging sections like the steep climb up to the “Hohe Acht.”
The Nürburgring’s Formula 1 infrastructure provides ideal conditions for the race: Each team is assigned its own pit space or plot directly alongside the track, offering ample room for all team camps. The sporting conclusion: After 24 hours on the bike in the “Green Hell,” there are only winners.
Two BLACKROLL® Teams for Rad am Ring 2023
The Campus Rollers at the Expo
Five BLACKROLL® Campus Rollers were on site to provide professional advice and all kinds of theoretical and practical support. We held two full workshops over the race weekend and also offered the full BLACKROLL® program in the Recovery Area, complete with recovery boots and more.
In our shared team lounge with the Ledschends, both teams benefited from RECOVERY BOOTS, foam rollers, pillows, blankets, and more. As recovery pros, we took care of the Ledschends riders’ muscles, and the passionate pro cyclists took care of our bikes with tremendous expertise and had plenty of valuable tips for us. They were also immediately on hand for repairs, allowing us to get back in the saddle much faster!

The BLACKROLL® 8-Person Cycling Team—in black jerseys
For the first time, we sent an 8-person team to the 24-hour race, consisting of BLACKROLL® employees, friends, and Campusroller members.
We’re proud to announce that not only were our expectations for sportsmanship, event spirit, team spirit, and plenty of fun exceeded, but so was our final ranking! After 24 hours in the saddle, our motivated racing gods and goddesses pedaled their way to 17th place out of a total of 124 participating 8-person teams, all with plenty of fun and passion. We started as amateurs and finished as cyclists. At this point, we can say with all modesty that the result speaks for our products and expertise! Muscles? We’ve got that covered!
The two teams from Ledschends took 3rd place (Team Mini Horn X) and 5th place (Team RH77 X). Congratulations! And it’s truly amazing what you’ve managed to achieve once again.
We’re already really looking forward to next year—and we’re not ruling out a first-place finish in the 24-hour race just yet…!

More about the Ledschends: Cycling for a Good Cause
10 years, €120,000, and not a bit tired: The Ledschends were founded back in 2013 to cycle for donations that help seriously ill or underprivileged children. Today, 35 cyclists—as a so-called nonprofit organization—achieve top athletic performances for those who are less fortunate in life. The focus is on the annual major event “Rad am Ring,” a 24-hour bike race around the legendary Nürburgring. With the help of well-known personalities, they strive to generate as much attention as possible to raise as many donations as possible—for example, for children with cancer.
